Vladimir Putin has selected Dmitry Medvedev as his chosen successor in Russia, and the people have listened. He has been voted in to replace Putin as Russian President. Of course there was really only one viable candidate, Medvedev. Gee what a surprise that the Russian people voted for him! Late this evening the Central Election Commission said that with ballots from two-thirds of the country’s electoral precincts counted, Medvedev had received 69 percent of the vote. His closest rival was Communist Party chief Gennady Zyuganov, who had just 18 percent. (ABC news.com)

What really cracks me up is that this guy looks like the Russian equivalent of a G.I. Joe doll. I mean look at the guy, leather jacket zipped up to the nipple line, an expression that I have only seen on plastic.

Considering the Russian elections that I have heard of in my lifetime, this one is not all that unusual. Truly the idea of a current Russian leader hand picking his successor, is nothing new. Unless there was a purge, that was how it has been done since the Russian Revolution in the early 20th Century.

What is unusual is that the Russian people are pissed off about the unfairness, and complaining about it. This is something that was not even conceivable until the breakup of the Soviet Union. Garry Kasparov, former World Chess Champ and leader of the Other Russia opposition group said; –(the Russian Political Machine) “are not paying attention even to the formalities and they eliminated the whole process which is now one big fake”.

Russian leaders, not playing fair in an election? Who ever would have thought!
